Speech Therapy / Pathology
Our talented Speech Pathologists are able to assist with a variety of speech, language and communication difficulties.
Access Reports
Our speech pathologists can assist with access to funding bodies such as the NDIS. We can provide supporting documentation about the impact of a person’s swallowing difficulties and/or speech and language delays as additional evidence for applications.
Comprehensive Language Assessment
The Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF-5) assessment can be administered by our speech pathologists as part of a comprehensive language assessment. In addition to the CELF, we use a variety of other assessment tools to review expressive, receptive and pragmatic language, reading and writing skills.
Paediatric Feeding
Intervention from a speech pathologist may be required in younger children who have difficulties with eating and drinking. We assess the child to determine the issues that are impacting on their eating and drinking and provide intervention to support parents and caregivers.
Swallowing and Mealtime Assessments
Our Speech Pathologists are able to assess an individual’s ability to safely eat, drink and swallow food and liquids, provide recommendations to enhance the safety, functionality and fulfillment in mealtimes. This may include diet, fluid or environmental modifications, prescription of various eating and drinking tools and/or strategies to manage unsafe mealtime behaviours. At the OT Group, we recognise safety, fulfillment, cultural and social needs associated with eating and drinking in order to also maintain quality of life.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Devices
Recommendations for AAC are typically completed following a general communication assessment. AAC encompasses a wide range of systems, from simple gestures to high-tech (electronic) devices and are prescribed to support a person to communicate with others if they experience speech or language difficulties. At the OT Group we validate all forms of communication and take a total communication approach.
Early Intervention (Ages 3-7)
Early childhood educators or maternal child health professionals may flag that a child needs support from a Speech Pathologist. Typically, this support focuses on speech sound and language development, however all support provided by our Speech Pathologists is personalised to the client.
Social Communication and Pragmatics
Speech pathologists can assist with development of social skills that support communication in social settings. This can include the interpretation of gestures, facial expressions and body language and turn taking during conversation.
Communication Assessments
A general assessment conducted by our Speech Pathologists to determine where an individual may need additional support to communicate with the people in their lives. This assessment will support our Speech Pathologists to develop recommendations, intervention plans and deliver targeted therapy to support goals.
Literacy Assessment
We can complete a variety of literacy assessments including phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and language assessments, to determine an individual's literacy and language skills required for reading, writing, spelling, learning and everyday living. Our Speech Pathologists then provide evidence based, systematic phonics instruction and intervention to support the development of these skills, alongside the development of language and communication skills required to develop strong literacy skills.
Speech and Language Therapy
Our Speech Pathologists can assess and treat speech, articulation, fluency and language difficulties and disorders in both adults and children. We take a neuroaffirming approach and work with clients and their caregivers to improve confidence with communication for individuals who stutter or experience other speech challenges.
